The Bay Mau coconut forest is tens of hectares of water palm at Cẩm Thanh, about 3km from Hoi An Old Town. It is the easiest tour in the day-trip range for children and older travellers — no climbing, no diving, just a round basket boat drifting through the channels while someone spins another one for you.
The tour runs at two times of day: out in the morning and back in the afternoon, or out in the afternoon with Hoi An Old Town added in the evening. Both apply from two people; groups of five or more booking several tours together get an additional voucher discount.
Since 1 July 2025, Quảng Nam province has been merged into the city of Đà Nẵng, so Hoi An is now part of Đà Nẵng.
Bring small notes
The rowers and the spinning crew live largely on tips. It is not compulsory, but it is the custom here — 20,000–50,000₫ is the usual range. Having it ready saves an awkward moment mid-river.
Practical notes
You will get wet in the basket boat. Especially watching the spinning at close range. Bring a change of clothes or accept coming back damp.
Put your phone in a waterproof pouch. The boats spin hard and throw a lot of water; every season somebody drops a phone in the river.
Option 2 is better value if you have not seen Hoi An. It costs about 180,000₫ more and adds a whole evening in the Old Town plus a meal.
Afternoons are cooler than mornings. The palms give good shade, but the open stretch mid-river is exposed.
Not for anyone who gets badly seasick. A round basket boat rolls considerably more than an ordinary boat.

- Option 1 — 08:30Pickup at your hotel, the airport or the bus station in Đà Nẵng.
- 09:00Arrive at the Bay Mau coconut forest. Board a round basket boat and your rower takes you through the water palm channels. Along the way they fold palm leaves into rings, grasshoppers and hats for you to keep.
- Mid-morningThe basket-spinning and basket-dancing show mid-river — the boat spins on the spot and throws water everywhere. This is the main act.
- 12:00Lunch at the eco-tourism site.
- Early afternoonFolk games and water activities, for groups of more than 30. Smaller groups have free time around the site.
- 15:30Depart for Đà Nẵng.
- 16:30Back in Đà Nẵng, end of programme.
- Option 2 — 15:15 – 15:30Pickup in Đà Nẵng. The coconut forest and the spinning show as in Option 1.
- 17:15Leave the coconut forest for Hoi An Old Town.
- 17:30Walk the Old Town as the lanterns come on.
- 18:00Dinner at a three-star restaurant in the Old Town.
